It&#8217;s also\u00a0one of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/top-6-adults-only-hotels\/\">top adults-only resorts in Playa del Carmen<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But what makes this all-inclusive resort inPlaya del Carmen so special? You&#8217;re always well attended to no matter who it is on the staff who attends you.<\/li>\n<li>The food is great. The Royal uses quality ingredients, the food is fresh, and above all it is as varied as it is delicious.<\/li>\n<li>The Royal Playa del Carmen has one of the best locations of any Playa del Carmen hotel. Right on the beach and steps away from 5th Avenues offers guests the best of both worlds.<\/li>\n<li>Adults-only. A total kid-free zone that will help you keep your sanity if you&#8217;re looking to take a break from screams and expert fit-throwing or simply prefer a little more peace and quiet.<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;ll find 5-star quality all-around and in every aspect of the hotel. In other words, you get what you pay for.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-9780 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-royal-playa-del-carmen-43.jpg\" alt=\"The Royal Playa del Carmen pool\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" data-id=\"9780\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>5\u00a0Cons of The Royal<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Staying at an all-inclusive discourages you from frequenting local eateries and bars, who in spite of their high quality suffer from their inability to compete with the all-inclusive.<\/li>\n<li>While location is one of the hotel&#8217;s best traits, it can also be a disadvantage for those looking to get away from the crowds. Being so close to everything also means you&#8217;re close to everybody else.<\/li>\n<li>The beach at The Royal is nice, clean, and generally has calm waters. However, once again location places a roll in the sense that if you&#8217;re looking for a more private beach this won&#8217;t be the case. See below for more comments about the beach.<\/li>\n<li>The rooms at The Royal are spectacular and have everything you would expect from a hotel of this class. However, although the hotel sits right on the beach, there is a big difference in terms of cost and the visibility of the Caribbean Sea between oceanfront rooms and rooms that have a partial oceanview.<\/li>\n<li>No kids. This is the yang to the ying of being adults-only. Because, on the one hand, you basically just substitute screaming kids for screaming adults. On the other hand, kids are awesome and mostly bring joy (when they&#8217;re not being utter brats).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><b> <a href=\"#top\">Back to top<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 id=\"Oceanview\">Oceanview or Garden View?<\/h3>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-9786 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-royal-playa-del-carmen-7.jpg\" alt=\"The Royal Playa del Carmen swim up\" width=\"712\" height=\"534\" data-id=\"9786\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For many people, having a room with an oceanview as an essential aspect of a vacation at the beach.<\/p>\n<p>I personally find it overrated, especially when you are at a hotel where the white sand beach is just a few steps away.<\/p>\n<p>But everybody is different and that&#8217;s why there are diverse options for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>The thing to know here is this: your suite at The Royal is going to rock, no matter which view you have.<\/p>\n<p>That said, however, only the oceanfront rooms have a real, direct view of the Caribbean Sea.<\/p>\n<p>Those considered oceanview suites have partial views from the balcony, but as the hotel runs west from the beach south to 5th Avenue, the sea can sometimes be quite a distance away or just have a few of the garden\/pool.<\/p>\n<p>513 suites are divided into the following room categories at The Royal:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>89 Royal Junior Suites<\/li>\n<li>82 Royal Junior Suites Garden View<\/li>\n<li>60 Royal Junior Suites Central Garden View<\/li>\n<li>187 Royal Junior Suite Ocean View<\/li>\n<li>20 Royal Junior Suite Swim-Up Ocean View<\/li>\n<li>30 Royal Junior Suite Oceanfront<\/li>\n<li>17 Royal Master Suites<\/li>\n<li>6 Royal Junior Suite Beachfront Walk-Out<\/li>\n<li>10 Royal Junior Suite Swim-Up Beachfront Walk-Out<\/li>\n<li>4 Royal Master One Bedroom Suit Oceanfront<\/li>\n<li>8 Royal Presidential Suite<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If having an oceanview is important to you, be sure to make sure that you are getting the type of suite you want when reserving your stay at The Royal; an upgrade can be costly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><b> <a href=\"#top\">Back to top<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 id=\"AI\">The All-Inclusive Program at Royal Playa del Carmen<\/h3>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-9762 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-royal-playa-del-carmen-14.jpg\" alt=\"The Royal Playa del Carmen spa\" width=\"712\" height=\"534\" data-id=\"9762\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ahhh. Awe. All-inclusive.<\/p>\n<p>The Royal Playa del Carmen places a premium on keeping their guests happy.<\/p>\n<p>This all-encompassing commitment to excellence can be seen in the hotel&#8217;s all-inclusive program.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-9773 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-royal-playa-del-carmen-31.jpg\" alt=\"The Royal Playa del Carmen scuba diving\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" data-id=\"9773\" \/><\/p>\n<h5>Here are just some of the luxuries included in your stay at The Royal:<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>A state-of-the-art fitness center including Center &amp; Stott\u00ae Pilates equipment.<\/li>\n<li>The choice of 7 different quality restaurants plus the full use of all facilities and restaurants at the neighboring sister and kid-friendly property of The Grand Porto Real.<\/li>\n<li>Premium drinks at all bars and the choice of 3 different white wines and 3 different red wines.<\/li>\n<li>24-hour prompt room service<\/li>\n<li>24-hour VIP lounge<\/li>\n<li>Tequila, wine, martini, and coffee tastings once a week by professional sommeliers<\/li>\n<li>Complimentary access to hydrotherapy circuit at SPAzul<\/li>\n<li>Olympic-size pool with 164 ft. lap lane<\/li>\n<li>Relaxation pool with 82 ft. lap lane<\/li>\n<li>Complementary introductory scuba lessons<\/li>\n<li>Lighted rooftop tennis court<\/li>\n<li>Daily entertainment program<\/li>\n<li>Volleyball, billiard, ping-pong and board games<\/li>\n<li>Beach butlers<\/li>\n<li>Handicap-accessible suites throughout the resort<\/li>\n<li>In-suite hot tub<\/li>\n<li>WiFi throughout the resort<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pampering, comprehensive, and quality perfectly describe the all-inclusive program at The Royal Playa del Carmen.<\/p>\n<p>And those are just some of the elements that stand out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><b> <a href=\"#top\">Back to top<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 id=\"Eat\">Eat, Drink &amp; Be Merry<\/h3>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-9768 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-royal-playa-del-carmen-20.jpg\" alt=\"Asiana restaurant Royal Playa del Carmen\" width=\"712\" height=\"534\" data-id=\"9768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is one of the &#8220;cherries on top&#8221; type aspects of The Royal Playa del Carmen and goes hand in hand (or fork to mouth) with the previous point.<\/p>\n<p>Included in the all-inclusive program is the opportunity to wine and dine at six different restaurants at The Royal Playa del Carmen plus the three restaurants at the Grand Porto Real.<\/p>\n<p>I generally find the food at all-inclusive hotels to be sub-par.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s not the case here.<\/p>\n<p>I did only try the food at two of the restaurants, not having room in my stomach for what my Pavlovian instincts wanted me to try at Maria Marie; a Mexican-French fusion restaurant which also happens to be the resort&#8217;s most popular.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-9767 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-royal-playa-del-carmen-19.jpg\" alt=\"A plate of sushi at Royal Playa del Carmen restaurant Asiana\" width=\"712\" height=\"534\" data-id=\"9767\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That said, however, I was impressed; first by the breakfast buffet at Spice and then at the Asiana restaurant, the latter serving up Chinese, Japanese, and Thai food.<\/p>\n<p>The food rocked, especially at Asiana, and all The Royal Playa del Carmen reviews rave about the food ?<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re spot on.<\/p>\n<p>I interviewed Luis Ake Sosa, the Food &amp; Beverages Manager at the Royal, to ask him about what he would suggest on a typical day.<\/p>\n<p>He suggested breakfast at Spice due to the wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and stews available. They also serve up fresh juice, omelettes, hotcakes, and French toast.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-9756 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-royal-playa-del-carmen-1.jpg\" alt=\"The Royal Playa del Carmen breakfast\" width=\"712\" height=\"534\" data-id=\"9756\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For lunch, Luis recommends something quick and easy at Pelicanos. Pelicanos is the beachfront restaurant at The Royal, which serves up an array of seafood dishes and sandwiches.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll need to R.S.V.P. in the evening, as the popular Mexican-French fusion restaurant gets the nod for dinner.<\/p>\n<p>Luis suggests ordering the poblano crepes with a glass of Merlot wine, following it up with a Italian-like chocolate soufflet called <em>Chocolatin<\/em> for desert.<\/p>\n<p>For longer stays, consider trying out the restaurants at the Grand Porto Real, and for a night out on town check out our suggested list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/information\/restaurants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Playa del Carmen restaurants<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Locals should note that both Asiana and Pelicanos are open to the public.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><b> <a href=\"#top\">Back to top<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 id=\"Rocks\">What About Those Rocks on the Beach?<\/h3>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-9777 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-royal-playa-del-carmen-38.jpg\" alt=\"Royal Playa del Carmen beach\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" data-id=\"9777\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of the discussions that gets a lot of traction in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Hotel_Review-g150812-d530483-Reviews-The_Royal_Playa_del_Carmen-Playa_del_Carmen_Yucatan_Peninsula.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>forums such as TripAdvisor<\/strong><\/a> deal with the beach at The Royal.<\/p>\n<p>Again, everyone has their own standards and expectations and that&#8217;s fine; our diversity is what makes humanity so rich and interesting.<\/p>\n<p>I personally find the beach area at The Royal great.<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>Because you are so close to the action there&#8217;s always a lot going on; people swimming, walking by with their strange suntan lines, kids playing, etc.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-9313 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC06729.jpg\" alt=\"Beach at Royal Playa del Carmen\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" data-id=\"9313\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Having people around, be they from the hotel or otherwise, is part of the enjoyment.<\/p>\n<p>As for the beach at The Royal being rocky, yes and no.<\/p>\n<p>The hotel is located close to the pier. The closer you get to the pier, the more it&#8217;s likely you&#8217;ll encounter some rocks in the water.<\/p>\n<p>However, go swimming just a few more feet to the north and there are no rocks.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-9766 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-royal-playa-del-carmen-18.jpg\" alt=\"Royal Playa del Carmen beach loungers\" width=\"712\" height=\"534\" data-id=\"9766\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now, wasn&#8217;t that easy?<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the beach is a bit narrow.<\/p>\n<p>This wasn&#8217;t always the case.<\/p>\n<p>However, father time and beach erosion affecting the entire region has dealt a blow to this section of the beach.<\/p>\n<p>A once wide and expansive stretch of beach has been reduced to a fairly narrow strip.<\/p>\n<p>Is it a problem?<\/p>\n<p>Environmentally, yes it is.<\/p>\n<p>Will it affect your vacation or does it make the beach any less beautiful?<\/p>\n<p>Not at all.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><b> <a href=\"#top\">Back to top<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 id=\"Spa\">SPAzul: Wellness &amp; Relaxation at The Royal<\/h3>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-9761 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-royal-playa-del-carmen-12.jpg\" alt=\"SpaZul Royal Playa del Carmen\" width=\"712\" height=\"534\" data-id=\"9761\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I also had the privilege of checking out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Attraction_Review-g150812-d5050261-Reviews-SPAzul-Playa_del_Carmen_Yucatan_Peninsula.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>SPAzul<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While I didn&#8217;t get my body dipped in searing wax while pan flutes rang out over the speakers and my eyes covered in slices of cucumber, I did get a site inspection.<\/p>\n<p>The spa&#8217;s friendly director, Maria Luisa (Marilu) Murguia, took the time to show me around and explain all of the spa&#8217;s numerous therapeutic services.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-9763 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-royal-playa-del-carmen-15.jpg\" alt=\"Massage beds at SPAzul Playa del Carmen\" width=\"712\" height=\"534\" data-id=\"9763\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Their spa menu includes a wide array of treatments, wraps, and massages.<\/p>\n<p>The installations are impeccable, the ambiance is perfectly soothing, and the entire staff is warm and friendly.<\/p>\n<p>They also offer the use of a temazcal, which is a type of regional sweat bath.<\/p>\n<p>When I asked Marilu what treatments she would recommend taking into consideration most people won&#8217;t go more than once or twice, she suggested starting off the stay with a chocolate exfoliation to rid the skin of impurities and thus improve the the absorption of Vitamin D, and a Mayan Massage; a combination of different techniques including deep tissue, hot stones, relaxing &amp; sport massage, done with aromatic oil candles in order to relieve tension.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-9788 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/the-royal-playa-del-carmen-27-1.jpg\" alt=\"Temazcal Royal Playa del Carmen\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" data-id=\"9788\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The hydrotherapy circuit is included in the all-inclusive package, and I did do that prior to leaving the hotel.<\/p>\n<p>Between hot and cold, sweating and shivering, it felt great.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the hydrotherapy circuit and the pampering of the staff at the hotel, I left feeling happy and refreshed.<\/p>\n<p><em>And remember, because SPAzul is open to the public, locals and visitors to Playa del Carmen can also enjoy the amazing treatments found within the confines of this holistic haven.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><b> <a href=\"#top\">Back to top<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 id=\"Map\">A Royal Playa del Carmen Resort Map<\/h3>\n<p><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-9804 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/royal-playa-del-carmen-map.jpg\" alt=\"Royal Playa del Carmen map\" width=\"800\" height=\"620\" data-id=\"9804\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Royal Playa del Carmen is a big resort.
