The festival, which will be held from <strong>June 24-30 in Playa del Carmen<\/strong>, brings world-class cinema at no cost to the public. Starting July 2, the festival will go on the road with free showings of select films in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/information\/areas\"><strong>Tulum, Isla Mujeres, and Puerto Morelos<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7843\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/formacion-rmff-2015-congreso-de-cine-en-la-riviera-maya-playa-del-carmen-10-min.jpg\" alt=\"Riviera Maya Film Festival\" width=\"760\" height=\"507\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Under the slogan, &#8220;Five Years of Bringing the Screen to You&#8221;, the RMFF is back this year in celebration of the festival&#8217;s fifth anniversary with <strong>59 films, 43 national premieres, and one world premiere<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Following 980 free showings to approximately 81,000 spectators, the Riviera Maya Film Festival returns in 2016 with yet another diverse and exciting program that has something for everyone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sections of the festival include <strong>Formation<\/strong>, <strong>Mexican Platform<\/strong>, <strong>RIVIERALAB<\/strong>, <strong>Panorama Autoral<\/strong> (Focus on Directors), <strong>Planetario<\/strong> (Planetarium), <strong>Gran Publico<\/strong> (Grand Public), <strong>Ficci\u00f3n o Realidad<\/strong> (Fiction or Reality), among others.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7044\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Riviera-Maya-Film-Festival-beach-showing.jpg\" alt=\"Riviera Maya Film Festival showing at the beach in Playa del Carmen\" width=\"760\" height=\"507\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Formation<\/strong> section of the festival is among the most anticipated, as it offers a space for workshops, conferences, and Master Classes led by directors, actors, producers and screenwriters. The events will be held on June 27-28 at <strong>Blue Parrot Beach Club<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Planetarium<\/strong> will highlight topics such as environmental issues, social transformations, and the consequences of armed conflict. Among the films to be shown in the Planetarium section is <em><strong>Erosion<\/strong><\/em>, a documentary about the erosion of the beaches in Playa del Carmen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Another aspect of this year&#8217;s festival is the cooperation with the German-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goethe.de\/en\/index.html\"><strong>Goethe Institut<\/strong><\/a>, who will sponsor the showing of two films: <em><strong>24 Weeks<\/strong><\/em> directed by Anne Zohra, and <em><strong>Who Is Oda Jaune?<\/strong><\/em>, directed by Kamilla Pfeffer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/cx5K2ioCelI?rel=0\" width=\"853\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Riviera Maya Film Festival will open on June 24th will a gala and presentation of the Pedro Almodovar film, <em><strong>Julieta<\/strong><\/em>. Other galas of this year&#8217;s fifth-year anniversary celebration include <em><strong>Despite the Night<\/strong><\/em> by P. Grandrieux, <em><strong>I Saw the Light<\/strong><\/em>, by M. Abraham, and the closing gala with Don Cheadle&#8217;s <em><strong>Miles Ahead<\/strong><\/em>.
