Yes, they have closed their doors to look for greener albeit more polluted pastures in Mexico City. It was fun while it lasted!

I love the chance to eat out but I especially love being able to eat out and still eat healthy.

When something is tasty and healthy, this is the ultimate treat for me. This is why I absolutely loved Chic Pea Restaurant in Playa del Carmen and decided to review it.

Located on 38th street just east of 5th avenue (head towards the beach), it is close to the action but in a quiet area. This area of 5th avenue is known as the “New Quinta” and more and more businesses are popping up.

The reataurant is away from the street although they do have signs to guide you in the right direction. The colorful patio is inviting and you can sit in the shade and enjoy a peaceful moment.

This restaurant is 100% vegetarian and the specialties are falafel and lemonade. The food is authentic and the ingredients are fresh.

Although I had a hard time deciding, I ended up opting for the original falafel. Fresh pita bread with even fresher veggies: tomatoes, onions, parsley and cabbage. The falafel was delicious! The plates comes with a variety of sauces ranging from mango habanero (my fave!) to avocado, chipotle and sweeter sauces.

In addition to the choices of falafel, they do have a salad bar you can opt for as well as a few other options.

Although they do have a variety of refreshments available, their specialty is lemonade. The perfect drink for the hot summer weather in Playa del Carmen. All the lemonades are homemade and natural. Opt for basil, ginger, berry and other flavors. My drink was the perfect match for the fresh pita falafel.

The service was quick and friendly. The patio was the perfect ambiance to sit, enjoy a meal and read a book.

The total for my yummy lunch was 125 pesos, or $10US. A total steal for the quality of the food.

I have to say that I have been craving the falafel ever since. I don’t think it will be very long before I go back to Chic Pea!

Have you eaten here? Agree with my Chic Pea restaurant review?
