Yes, you’re reading this right…not just any train, a MAYAN train<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

Thumbs Up Or Thumbs Down?<\/h2>\n

As an avid traveller, I simultaneously both admired and loathed<\/strong> the fact that the only real form of public transport<\/strong> in the large part of Mexico is bus.<\/p>\n

Yup, you can literally travel from one end of Mexico to the other via some sort of bus (such as the ADO).<\/p>\n

3875349837297 hour bus ride? No problem – that will be 200 pesos, gracias. \ud83d\ude02<\/span><\/p>\n

\"ado<\/p>\n

Sure, it’s cheap and cheerful for the young and adventurous backpacker<\/strong> but also long, uncomfortable, and arduous for the more mature traveller.<\/p>\n

Oh – how my value systems have evolved…<\/p>\n

New Mayan Train from Cancun to Tulum<\/h2>\n

Scheduled for completion by 2023<\/strong> you’ll be able to hop off the plane at Cancun and jump straight on a train to Playa del Carmen or Tulum.<\/p>\n

In a car, this can take anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour\u00a0<\/strong>(depending on traffic) and I’m predicting the train to take at least half that time.<\/p>\n

So, essentially you could be in Playa sippin’ on Pina Coladas just 15 minutes after walking out the doors of the airport.<\/p>\n

Sounds attractive, right?<\/p>\n

Not to mention,\u00a0 swerving the anxiety that comes with crazy Mexican highway driving…<\/p>\n

I’m not judging ya’ll, but on the whole, the Juans of the taxi world are in a rush to get places. Just sayin’.<\/p>\n

Time is money people!<\/p>\n

Scheduled for Completion in 2023<\/h2>\n

The Secretary of National Defense AKA Sedena<\/strong> will be spearheading the build of the northern section 5 of the Mayan Train, from Cancun to Playa del Carmen.<\/p>\n

Building anything below ground in Quintana Roo could potentially be problematic due to the cavernous nature of the limestone, so the electrified railway is currently set to be built above ground.<\/p>\n

Hence, we’ve stumbled on the first topic of debate.<\/p>\n

It doesn’t exactly “go” with the lush surroundings, does it?<\/p>\n
