{"id":24011,"date":"2021-03-09T06:00:27","date_gmt":"2021-03-09T11:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/?p=24011"},"modified":"2025-08-31T22:17:59","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T02:17:59","slug":"generation-riviera-maya-resort-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/generation-riviera-maya-resort-review\/","title":{"rendered":"My Honest Review of the Generations Riviera Maya Resort (2025)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/hotels\/generations-riviera-maya\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Generations Riviera Maya resort<\/a> is <strong>5 star, family-friendly resort<\/strong> located in the heart of the Riviera Maya.<\/p>\n<p>Until recently, I actually didn&#8217;t know much about this hotel (crazy, I know)!<\/p>\n<p>It got my attention when it was featured 2020 in Conde Nast&#8217;s Reader&#8217;s Choice Awards as one of the <strong>top places to stay in Mexico<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, as a keen hotel reviewer, I needed to know more.<\/p>\n<h2>My Honest Review of Generations Riviera Maya Resort:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"#location\">Location<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#decor\">Decor and Layout<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#rooms\">Rooms<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#beach\">Beach<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#food\">Food &amp; Drink<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#pools\">Pools &amp; Activities<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#nightlife\">Nightlife<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#spa\">Spa<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#weddings\">Weddings<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#save\">Save On Your Hotel<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<p>I did some digging and discovered that in comparison to most resorts, Generations Riviera Maya are pretty low-key when it comes to their marketing.<\/p>\n<p>My first thought?<\/p>\n<p>Why!<\/p>\n<p>Little did I know&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"location\">1. Location<\/h2>\n<p>A few miles south of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/puerto-morelos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Puerto Morelos<\/a> is where you will find this hotel, perched neatly on the powdery white sands of the Mexican Caribbean.<\/p>\n<p>Most travelers have never even heard of Puerto Morelos.<\/p>\n<p>I always joke and say that it is Cancun&#8217;s little-known sister.<br \/>\n<iframe style=\"border: 0;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m14!1m8!1m3!1d238717.33081457604!2d-86.93255049999999!3d20.7929751!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x0%3A0xb5fed6f08b0e514f!2sGenerations%20Riviera%20Maya%20Resort!5e0!3m2!1sen!2suk!4v1614764350545!5m2!1sen!2suk\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nIf you want to escape the hustle and bustle of Cancun but still want to be in a prime position to enjoy the best of what the region has to offer, look no further.<\/p>\n<p>This little known gem was\u00a0<strong>once an old fishing town<\/strong> and consequently, it&#8217;s still permeated by an old-world ambience.<\/p>\n<p>If you enjoy charming towns that feel like travelling back in time you have to visit at least once &#8211; plus the beach is great here (more on that later)!<\/p>\n<p>The best part?<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24070\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/1200px-Puerto_Murelos-1.jpg\" alt=\"Puerto Morelos\" width=\"760\" height=\"526\" data-id=\"24070\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You will still be just <strong>30-35 minutes<\/strong> away from neighboring towns such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/best-beach-clubs-tulum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tulum<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/1-day-guide-playa-del-carmen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Playa del Carmen<\/a> if wanted to visit there (which I&#8217;d highly recommend).<\/p>\n<p>And just 15 mins away from the heart of Cancun.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s not to love about that?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><b><a href=\"#top\">Back to top<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"decor\">2. Decor and Layout<\/h2>\n<p>I have so much to say on this part so let&#8217;s just dive right in.<\/p>\n<p>Firstly,\u00a0 the thing I&#8217;m most excited about &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>This resort has a <strong>GIANT on-site greenhouse<\/strong> (which you can actually take a tour of) where the hotel grows all of its own fruit and veg.<\/p>\n<p>How cool is that?<\/p>\n<p>The stand-out USP for me at this hotel is how dedicated they are to giving back to the earth and the environment.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, they built a <strong>manmade reef<\/strong> just off their shoes to help encourage the growth and health of the local marine life.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24053\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Generations_Riviera_Maya_Resort13-1.png\" alt=\"Generations Riviera Maya Resort Review \" width=\"760\" height=\"569\" data-id=\"24053\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For me, I think this is one of the key reasons the resort doesn&#8217;t have to do lots of marketing.<\/p>\n<p>People who stay here tend to come back time and time again. Almost everyone I spoke to had been here before.<\/p>\n<p>I think that just says it all&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The hotel is owned by Karisma and in their signature true style, the resort is contemporary, modern and chic.<\/p>\n<p>Expect clean modern lines in all of the rooms accented with Walnut headboards and chocolate-colored bed runners.<\/p>\n<p>I also noticed lovely decorative elements too such as floral leathery anthuriums and beautifully selected art pieces around the resort.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the layout of the property, all suites are oceanfront with most of the restaurants looking out onto the sea too. Win!<\/p>\n<p>What I noted for families was that the <strong>suites were oversized with 1, 2 and even 3 bedrooms<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p>Great if you&#8217;re a family of 5+&#8230; you&#8217;d be surprised how many hotels in the region don&#8217;t sufficiently accommodate larger families.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><b><a href=\"#top\">Back to top<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"rooms\">Rooms<\/h2>\n<p>The one thing everybody wants when they come to Mexico is an <strong>oceanfront suite<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Due to Oceanfront suites often being in short supply at most hotels this allows resort owners to drive the prices up.<\/p>\n<p>It can get pretty ridiculous.<\/p>\n<p>What I love about this resort is that <strong>EVERY suit is an oceanfront suite<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I mean if you&#8217;re gonna build a hotel, build it right, huh?<\/p>\n<p>Generations Riviera Maya knocked it out of the park on this front.<\/p>\n<p>Not only that but the first 4 floors of the resort all have <strong>their own swim-out pools<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>So, you can cool off from the balcony and enjoy ocean views from your own private pool.<\/p>\n<p>Epic.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24055\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Generations_Riviera_Maya_Resort4-1.jpg\" alt=\"Generations Riviera Maya Resort Review Rooms\" width=\"760\" height=\"428\" data-id=\"24055\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In total there are <strong>9 room options to choose from<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Based on your budget, your wants, and desires our team here at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/hotels\/generations-riviera-maya\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Playa Del Carmen can help you<\/a> get the best room, at the best price for you.<\/p>\n<p>To top it all off you get your very own butler service with every room.<\/p>\n<p>There are just 144 suites at Generations Riviera Maya and each one includes deluxe amenities including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jacuzzis<\/li>\n<li>large flat-screen televisions<\/li>\n<li>in-room customizable drinks and snacks<\/li>\n<li>air conditioning<\/li>\n<li>a balcony or terrace<\/li>\n<li>24-hour room service<\/li>\n<li>iPod docking stations<\/li>\n<li>bathrobes, hairdryer<\/li>\n<li>safety deposit box<\/li>\n<li>and a coffee maker<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Average Cost Of a Room Per Night:<\/h4>\n<p>Right now as of January 2025 room rates are around <b>$620 per night.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Extremely great bang for your buck &#8211; usually this hotel is much more expensive so it&#8217;s a great opportunity to steal a great deal at an incredible hotel if you were thinking of traveling.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><b><a href=\"#top\">Back to top<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"beach\">Beach<\/h2>\n<p>Then, I encountered my first downfall at this hotel&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>There is no food or drink service on the beach.<\/p>\n<p>However, after mentioning it to staff this is simply because of COVID restrictions at this time and is likely to change in the very near future.<\/p>\n<p>Investigating on TripAdvisor the beach service previous to COVID receives rave reviews.<\/p>\n<p>So, if you stay here when there is a beach service again please let us all know in the comments section about your experience.<\/p>\n<p>We would love to hear from you.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24056\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playadelcarmen.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Generations_Riviera_Maya_Resort7-1.png\" alt=\"Generations Riviera Maya Resort Review \" width=\"760\" height=\"365\" data-id=\"24056\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On a purely aesthetic level, the beach is <strong>everything you could hope and want for&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s pure bliss, turquoise hues, white sands, <strong>beautiful shaded cabanas<\/strong>, and comfortable beach beds&#8230;what&#8217;s not to love?<\/p>\n<p>There are activities for all ages on the beach happening daily.<\/p>\n<p>Everything from yoga, volleyball, snorkelling and more!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><b><a href=\"#top\">Back to top<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"food\">Food &amp; Drink<\/h2>\n<p>You&#8217;ll be able to taste the home-grown freshness in the dishes you consume at Generations Riviera Maya resort.<\/p>\n<p>Whether you&#8217;re savouring authentic flavours in the <strong>signature \u00e0 la carte restaurants<\/strong>, grabbing a casual bite at a poolside grill or enjoying in-suite themed dining, every dish is a showcase of the culinary arts.<\/p>\n<h4>Eateries Include:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">International Gourmet Chef Market Grand Cafe &amp;
