Behold, the wondrous Ek Balam! These particular ruins are some of the largest to exist in Mexico and offer a more relaxed, lesser-known vibe. They date back from 100 BC to 1,200 BC and are remarkably well preserved.

In comparison to Chichen Itzá, Ek Balam is lesser-known therefore making it less crowded and giving you more of a chance to experience the wonder of the Mayan culture as it was thousands of years ago.

The focal point of Ek Balam is the 96-foot-tall Acropolis, which served as the main temple of this ancient city.

Scale the stairs and get on top of the Acropolis to enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of this archeological site and its surrounding jungle, while listening to the extraordinary stories of its constructions.

Many more buildings are on the grounds and ready to be explored as well, so roam free, and discover.

The name Ek Balam translates to "black jaguar,"  so keep your eyes open and you will see motifs of the animal on the sides of some of the buildings.

After this visit, you’ll travel to Valladolid, a colonial town full of Spanish conquest history offering a side of Mexico you may not have seen before.
