Starting next week, Playa del Carmen will play host to a spectacular program dedicated to the beautiful art of dance.
Called the 1st Caribbean Dance Encounter, or Primer Encuentro de Danza del Caribe, the event will take place from April 23rd through the 29th at a variety of venues and dance academies throughout the city.
Over 7 days, more than 33 groups, over 400 dancers, and nine plastic artists will join forces to delight the Playa del Carmen public with the depth and breadth of their talent.
Activities begin on Monday, April 23rd at 6:00 p.m. with the inaugural exhibition in the City Theater (Teatro de la Ciudad). At 7:00 p.m., event organizers will present the full program accompanied of course by a talented troupe of dancers from the diverse participating academies.
Caribbean Dance Encounter Program
Master classes will be held at diverse venues throughout the city from Monday through Saturday, the final day of the event, which also coincides with the International Dance Day.
Each class lasts one hour. Beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing until the last class at 12:00 p.m, each space will focus on a different dance style and will be taught by leading experts from the state of Quintana Roo and Mexico.
On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, workshops will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., and be led by Diana Venegas (Mon.-Wed.), and Normanda Encalada (Thursday).
In addition, special public presentations will be held each evening at the following venues:
- City Theater @ 6:00 p.m. – Sunday, April 23
- Parque Fundadores @ 6:00 p.m. – Monday, April 24
- Municipal Plaza @ 6:00 p.m. – Tuesday, April 25
- Nicte Ha neighborhood @ 6:00 p.m. – Wednesday, April 26
- Puerto Aventuras – Thursday, April 27
- City Theater @ 5:00 p.m. – Friday, April 28
- City Theater @ 5:00 p.m. – Saturday, April 29
Participating dance academies in Playa del Carmen include: Dance 4 Fun Studio, On Stage Escuela de Danza, Dance Club Playa del Carmen, Coppelia’s Studio, Escuela de Danza Talulah, Explayarte Escuela de Música y Danza and the Centro Cultural de Playa del Carmen.
