* There are authorized yellow white and black airport taxis. These vans are union controlled and are allowed to carry tourists from the airport to the hotels in Cancun and south on the corridor.

* There are also 2nd and 1st class busses that can be picked up in Playa del Carmen to continue your trip South to Akumal and Tulum. The buses leave every hour; you can also to take a 'combi' or 'colectivo' going north or south. Both (bus and combi) are 2nd class. You can travel as far as Merida or Chetumal on these buses. They are slow and tend to stop at every small village or anyone that basically needs a ride.

* The First Class Busses are very nice and comfortable. These operate almost exclusively between terminals; this can cut a lot of time off a long journey. They have assigned seats, Air Conditioning and toilets; some of them offer free drinks as well as videos. If you are interested to travel in a first class bus, you should go to Playa del Carmen or Tulum and buy your ticket at the bus station, some of the destinations available are Cancun, Coba, F. Carrillo Puerto, Chichen Itza, Merida, Chetumal, Palenque, Villahermosa and Mexico City.

* One of the newest additions to transportation from the airport is the 'Riviera' buses. These are brand new air conditioned buses that go directly from the airport to Playa del Carmen and drop passengers at the Playa del Carmen Bus terminal on Ave 5 and Juarez.
